The hidden costs of reporting to funders revealed

Our latest report, Turning the tables, helps put Scottish charities in control of reporting. It proposes, among other things, that charities negotiate with their funders to produce a standard or 'off-the-shelf' report withs useful information on the impact of donors' money.

'Excessive reporting requirements place a huge strain of charities and ultimately take them away from their work of changing people’s lives', says Lucy Heady, co-author of the report with Sylvia Rowley.

Turning the tables, funded by the Big Lottery Fund, was on the agenda of the Scotland Funders’ Forum when it met in Glasgow last week. NPC is currently undertaking a similar project in England, paid for by the Office of the Third Sector. This is due to be published by early summer 2008.
