Follow the money!

This is a snapshot of charities that recently received funding off the back of NPC research and advice:

  • Gold Standards Framework (GSF) just got a cheque for £20,000 from a private donor. The charity does groundbreaking work to help terminally ill patients to die at home. Most people would die at home if they could, where it is peaceful and they can get the care they need, and the charity helps GPs to plan better care for them.
  • The Haven project in Hull gives counselling and other support to children who have come to this country as refugees. Thanks to a donation from a private individual, the charity is able to continue helping children come to terms with their experiences and, eventually, flourish.
  • School Home Support, Beatbullying, Volunteer Reading Help and Shannon Trust are four charities working to improve literacy in the UK at school and also in prisons. For prisoners, literacy can mean the difference between finding a job and staying out of trouble, or not. The charities will receive a total of more than £500,000 over three years from a corporate charitable trust.

The charities tackle problems ranging from poorly planned care for the dying, to anxiety and hostility faced by child refugees and barriers to literacy. See our related reports for more information on these problems and the charities providing the solutions:

NPC’s advice helps donors do what they do better. Services include: managing one-off donations, helping to develop a strategy for giving and constructing themed portfolios.
