Do funders get information on results? Do they use it?

NPC's Tools team, which was set up to help charities to better measure and communicate their impact, is conducting a survey on the role of charities’ results in funding decisions.

The work is part of the National Performance Programme, and aims to improve communication between charities and funders; help funders learn from each other; and establish what support is available to both groups in measuring and evaluating their work. Findings will be available in early 2009, along with results from a survey of charities.

Gustaf Lofgren, who is leading the research said, 'By looking behind the rhetoric on performance and effectiveness, we hope the research will generate a new evidence base for the sector, helping charities and funders to work together as effectively as possible.'

The three-year National Performance Programme aims to expand the support on performance management available to third sector organisations across England. It is led by Charities Evaluation Services in partnership with acevo, the New Economics Foundation, New Philanthropy Capital and Voice4Change England.
