The tragic story of Baby P, who died of horrific injuries despite regular visits from social workers, has highlighted the need for vigilance in child protection issues. NPC’s report on child abuse, Not seen and not heard, highlights the importance of not only reporting child abuse, but also of working to prevent it in the first place. One recommended charity, WAVE Trust researches the cause of child abuse and ways to stop it.

Research shows professional advisors are not meeting clients' philanthropy needs

Professional advisors are missing out on the opportunity to meet their clients’ growing philanthropic needs, due to poor marketing and a lack of training for front-line teams. These findings, from the report, More advice needed, produced by Scorpio Partnership for New Philanthropy Capital, wise and the Bertelsmann Stiftung, are based on interviews with 100 European wealth advisors.

Bridging the generation gap

For the first time ever, there are more older people in the UK than there are children under 16. Yet a third of over-50s report feeling ‘left out’ of society, and a third of younger adults view people over 70 as being ‘incapable and incompetent’. UK Older People’s Day on 1 October aims to challenge such attitudes by celebrating the contribution that older people make to society.

NPC's work on Inspiring Scotland

In 2007, the Lloyds TSB Scotland for Scotland and the Scottish Government announced a new joint venture, Inspiring Scotland, to support Scottish charities. NPC produced the report for the first fund into 14-19 year olds struggling to move from school to further eduucation or employment.

NPC recently ran a panel session at the Voluntary Sector Studies conference. Tris Lumley, Head of NPC Tools, stated that charities do not measure enough, which hinders their improvement. He argued for academics to play a larger role in helping charities understand the effectiveness of their work.

A great result for a children’s hospice

Aston Villa announced that it will be wearing the name of Acorns, a children’s hospice, across its shirts next year, rather than seeking new sponsorship, which last year netted the club £2 million.
